Autobiography
Sister Ronayne Gergen OSB
Early in October 1949, Sister Mariette and I came to Taipei to join the staff of Taida. The univesity assigned to us a very nice Taiwan University house on Lane 24, Chin Men Chiek; and we began our long period of teaching at Taiwan University. I retired in 1971, but Sister Mariette and Sr. Bernard Marie still continue their teaching at Taida. From the very beginning we loved our work and our students. We settled down to a regular routine (if teaching can even be called routine!) In the meantime in 1953 we moved into our own convent on Lane 34 of Chin Men Chiek. During our 35 years of teaching in Taipei, In addition to the work at Taida, we have continued our teaching of religion and English at home. For an 8 year period we also taught conversation at the Officers Language School in Ta-Chih.
From 1960 - 1963 I was also closely connected with the work of our St. Benedict's Home for Children.

Since 1962 with the establishment of our Central House at Tan-Shui, our Community gradually increased in number, and developed in spirit as a true Benedictine Monastic Family. Eventually in addition to the other Apostolates, St. Benedicts' Home for Children was also moved to Tan-Shui and, as a result, I was again transferred to our Taipei Mission where I have continued to teach up to the present.
Now we are living in our new Convent - Hostel, which has been under the direction and careful supervision of Sister Bernard Marie from the beginning. It is a beautiful six -story building with ample space on one side for Grotto of Our Lady in our attractive convent Garden. Of the six storeys, the first two are mainly for our convent and lovely chapel, the third, fourth and fifth floors are for the girls Hostel, and the sixth is for private or small retreats. We built for now , and the future we leave to God.
And so we go on busily and happily from day to day and I place my present life peacefully in the hands of our Heavenly Father who takes care of all.
